HANOI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's imports of animal feed and materials from China rose sharply by over 128 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of 2014, according to statistics from Vietnam Customs on Tuesday.
Vietnam's Industry and Trade Information Center on Tuesday quoted the customs office as saying that in January-July period, Vietnam spent some 205.28 million U.S. dollars to import animal feed and materials from China.
China ranked the third among suppliers of animal feed and materials for Vietnam during the period, following Argentina and the United States.
Imports from Argentina reached 633.74 million U.S. dollars worth of products, up 39.67 percent year-on-year, while import revenue from the United States stayed at over 267.23 million U.S. dollars, up 4.49 percent.
Totally, in the first seven months, Vietnam spent over 1.92 billion U.S. dollars to buy animal feed and materials from the world market, posting an increase of 8.65 percent year-on-year.
Livestock production has been playing an increasingly important role in Vietnam's agriculture. In 2012, livestock production accounted for over 25 percent of the agricultural sector, according to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
